Out of Guangzhou: Images from the Road

Last days in Hong Kong, camping on the southern island of Po Toi. Local fisheries have collapsed in recent years, and many locals have had to leave to search for work elsewhere. Nature is retaking the land, and it has become a popular place for weekend campers

Back in Guangzhou, mere blocks from busy tourist centers, trees grow into old colonial houses.

Sun-dried seafood stands line the streets of Guangzhou/广州 , sold in what could be wonderfully plastic-free form but is instead the source of countless atoms-thick plastic bags that are easily carried by the wind into the river into the ocean into one of the giant Pacific garbage patches 😦

The Guangdong/广东 Greenway. For more than 100 miles going east from Guangzhou/广州, a smooth, shaded bike lane protects cyclists and motorcycles from the body of traffic. Next stop, Vietnam!
