We’re at a turning point. Between climate change, persistent and rising inequality, and the rising food crisis, it is clear that our current system is incapable of sustaining human civilization. The technological revolution we’re going through isn’t just about communications, but about automation, and it’s becoming increasingly clear that this is a change on the scale of the agricultural or industrial revolutions.
In the past, our systems have changed most drastically when our technical capabilities fundamentally changed. That’s what’s happening now. Simple automation (think cars, IT, and factories) could take away something like 45% of our current jobs (video here, sources in description). We’re in for a systems change no matter what we do.
Let’s be intentional about it. Let’s have this conversation. What should our next system be like? How will we change to make our civilization or prosperous, equal, and sustainable?
I’m going to start by reading this book, and I invite you to join me.
